I thought it might be a bit fo fun to have a look at one of the ‘Make Money Online’ methods that is currently doing the rounds.
Not something I have personal knowledge of here but someone I know is currently very excited about this so I thought it would be interesting to share (No website is required either they say).
It’s a three step process.
This is about using public domain images. Images that have no exclusive intellectual property rights, or the rights have expired, been expressly waived or been forfeited for some reason.
The first step is to find images that you can make money with.
Go to Google and type in ‘Public Domain picture website’ or ‘Public Domain image website’. You should find a few results.
(Eg. free-images.com)
When you find a website they will usually have a search facility to find the different sorts of images.
So in the ‘How To’ example we’re looking at today, the examples of images used are abstracts, landscapes, country scenes, sunsets, seascapes and tons of other stuff.
Step 2 is to enhance that image in any way you feel.
You’re basically using free online photo editing software to make it look better, or different or more appealing.
Just Google ‘Free Photo Editors’.
But FIRST, to find the right images you need to find out what is selling (below)
Step 3 – How to actually make money from the images AND the way you’ll find what is selling
This involves some research that you should do before you go out to find your images.
Go to a website called Etsy.com (it’s an online shop for makers and crafters etc) and find things that people are selling related to these images.
Have a look through the categories.
So the example that I’m using here uses the phrase ‘seascapes’.
If you search for that phrase on Etsy you’ll find tons of stuff.
From cushions and blinds with seascapes on (yes really) to actual canvases printed up with seascapes.
The next thing you need to do is find out what (in the ‘seascapes’ category) is selling.
This is simple to do – look at the number of reviews under the item.
If you find a seascape canvas print with 1500 reviews then it’s sold at LEAST that amount because not everyone leaves a review, right?
And if you find a canvas that sells at $100 then you know that seascape has earned the seller at least $150,000
And remember we’re talking just PRINTS here not original artwork or paintings.
So how do you set this all up?
Well you choose your (for example seascape) image that is in the public domain. Download it to your computer. Enhance it.
Then go to a website such as printify.com
On that website you can put images on canvasses.
All the instructions including a full tutorial are on the site.
You can sign up, then you simply choose what item you want to put your image on for example – mugs, bathroom robes, key fobs and of course canvases.
Our example is on a canvas because they command a high price point than a key fob or pair of socks. You choose the size, upload your image, resize it, edit in and preview it.
They even provide sample images you can use on your Etsy shop.
Then they give you a price for producing the canvas (including shipping).
They connect to your Etsy account automatically, and when you have a sale, they even mail the canvas out to your customer.
You decide on your price (and your markup) and just sell.
There are even online tutorials that tell you how to get your Etsy images to the top of Etsy rankings.
It’s kind of like a modern take on drop-shipping but with a creative element when it comes to finding images and deciding on a design.
Very simple but does it work?
Well I KNOW it’s working because when I was researching this article I found people who are doing it very profitably.
The thing is…
Is it for you?
If it tickles your pickle try it.
What interests me more is that people are also making these simple little methods into ‘How To’ products or video courses and selling them as ways to make money online.
And that’s MY niche 😉
